The common eland and the giant eland substitute the cow and the horse in Kosinbia, serving as beasts of burden, mounts, sources of milk, meat and leather. The reason is that these antelopes are immune to the "sleeping sickness" spread by the tsetse fly, common throughout the region. The giant eland is only a little bigger than the common eland. The reason for the name are the horns which reach as much as a hundred and twenty centimeters long. Kosinbian riders (also called "elandmen") don't need reins, guiding their mount through the horns. The colors go from red-brown to rust-red, with vertical white stripes which vary in size and number according to the breed.
