Viellvier, the mangrove-city, uses the light of giant fireflies instead of candles and lamps. They're easy kept animals, eating mostly seeds. The larvae also emit light and are valued as a pet in Viellvier. If one treats them well, they follow the person when adults. Local laws forbid any construction without alcoves for larvae. When they fly, leave a trail of cold blue, green and yellow sparks. In the spring, the mating flights create a multi-coloured spectacle, shining over grooms coming from all over the empire. The city exports tens of thousands of pirilampos every year. A pirilampo lives about fifteen to twenty five years and likes to amuse children with the blinking of its light. They can be trained to turn off their abdomens with a touch in the head.
