Sacrophysics I - Names, souls, ley lines and prana

The ley web of the planet Ghara.

     It's hard to think of something without giving it a name. Without a name, how to distinguish it from similar or equal things? Even if it's a name you have given and only you know it, naming is necessary. Then that thing becomes a concept, gains identity. For example, an island with jagged rocks being called "Spear Reef", where ships sunk. The feelings in this case are of fear and anger, but as equally valid as love and desire. These feelings generate something called "ley line", an ethereal connection between the being which feels and the target of such feelings. Through this link prana flows, the primordial element created by someone's feelings. The stronger and more ambivalent are the feelings, greater is the flow of prana. When something receives enough prana, the latter organizes itself into a soul*. Everything which has a soul acquires a conscience** and feelings. This includes the Spear Reef, the planet Ghara herself, all individuals and even the gods.

     Now think of how many things you feel something about. Were you a character in Ghara, all this would form countless ley lines***. And this works for everything which has a soul. This complex network of ley lines is what we call "ley web". Through it, the prana generated by feelings flows into the Sun, which exists to refine "raw prana" into the other elements: air, water, fire and earth. The Sun also produces pure prana: a part of it is reserved to create new stars and planets which may house more souls; what is left becomes the solar light.

     The entire known universe, called "Creation", works like this since it was created by EL, an entity which doesn't exists anymore. In her place, now there are the Archetypes, models that an entity must follow to become one of the greater gods, like Diveus or Carnificius.

*One may think of a soul as a ley line making a knot. But this knot is so complex and extensive that it codifies the identity, memories, feelings and even the physical characteristics of the corresponding being. This code is called "Pranic Holonogram", or PHG. In the setting, this substitutes the DNA. Things are weirder than they may seem at first in Atma.

**There are two exceptions: devils, called Diinferi, and demons, called Nefilims. Both are cosmic parasites, leeching prana of Creation. The reason they prefer souls is because those are a concentration of pure prana, but there are nefilims capable of absorbing the ambient prana, as well as other elements. Supernatural wastelands such as the Unquiet Lands are places that never recovered from what the nefilims did when they invaded Ghara more than five hundred years ago.

***This name was given by the Lord Tristan Vexille. Using a breach on reality left by the nefilims at the Ley Valley in today's Abalm, he was able to investigate the ley web and develop the concepts explained above. The technomagical advances and abalmian prosperity are a direct consequence of this research.
